Recientemente, Morrisey sacó a la venta un álbum exclusivamente de covers. Pero el ex The Smiths no es el único que le tomó el gusto a interpretar canciones otros: el año pasado, Billie Joe Armstrong, voz de Green Day y Mike Dirnt, bajista de la banda, crearon The Coverups, grupo en el cual dejan a un lado por un rato las canciones del punk rock que los hicieron conocidos mundialmente para hacer temas que, suponemos, los marcaron como músicos.
Este último fin de semana, en Oakland, la ciudad natal de Armstrong, se desarrolló el evento Street Block Party, en donde los dos Green Day tocaron durante un poco más de una hora con The Coverups, en la séptima presentación de este flamante proyecto. Pegados al público, en un mini escenario, la banda hizo temas de Rollig Stones, Ramones, David Bowie, Misfits, Tom Petty, entre otros. Los fans presentes, como se ve en el video, agradecidos.
El resto de la banda está constituida por Jason White (guitarra y voz), Bill Schneider (bajo) y Chris Dugan (batería). Con este grupo, Dirnt deja el bajo y toca la guitarra. A continuación, la lista de temas interpretados y el video del set de The Coverups:
